The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical speciality of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking to appoint a Member Communications Advisor to join the Membership and Events Department.


Reporting to the Executive Manager, this key role has a primary responsibility for the development and delivery of high-quality, effective and relevant communications to members across multiple channels – including e-newsletters, direct email, website and social media, and print publications.


This role has a specific focus on:

  • Writing for, editing and producing the RANZCP’s e-newsletter, including optimising content and monitoring online analytics.
  • Coordinating relevant and professional bulk emails to members using the RANZCP’s email platform (including writing text, reviewing submitted content, creating campaigns, scheduling and distribution).
  • Writing articles and other content aimed at members including for newsletters and the RANZCP website.
  • Improving member communications systems and approaches, ensuring integration across the organisation, and developing and implementing effective communications strategies.
  • Developing new member communications channels and tools.
  • Administering specified member-focused social media channels and communities.
  • Providing best practice advice and recommendations in relation to improving communications with members.

 The successful applicant will demonstrate:


  • A relevant qualification and a minimum of three years’ professional experience in a relevant communications role. Experience in a membership-based organisation, or in the health/mental health sector, would be highly regarded
  •  Excellent written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write, edit and coordinate the production of highly professional communications material, displaying an excellent grasp of language, spelling and grammar.
  •  Experience in using and developing bulk email platforms.
  • Experience in developing website and social media content, and coordinating online communities, would be highly regarded.
  • High-level interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with people in a wide variety of roles across the organisation.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met.
  • The ability to prioritise workload and adapt to meet changing demands.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to undertake work with limited supervision.
  • The capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a member of a team.
  • High level of understanding and skills in using relevant computer applications including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience in database software. Experience in desktop publishing or basic design will be regarded favourably.
  • The ability to work flexibly, including undertaking travel or working outside normal business hours if required.
