The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of Psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking to appoint an experienced and professional Policy Officer.

 

Reporting to the Manager, Policy Branches this position's primary objective is to provide advice to, and support for, the Victorian Branch Committee and the Victorian Branch Policy and Advocacy Advisor.


The position will respond and coordinate RANZCP Victorian Branch policy initiatives that are in line with the RANZCP Strategic Plan and which reaffirm the RANZCP as the ’go-to' peak body for the Victorian government for advice on best practice mental health care

 

This role has a specific focus to:

  • Undertake consultations with members and committees of the RANZCP on policy issues as determined by the RANZCP Victorian Branch Chair and Policy and Advocacy Advisor.
  • Prepare RANZCP Victorian Branch responses/submissions to government and other relevant processes/inquiries.
  • Prepare briefing materials and provide policy support to the RANZCP VictorianBranch Chair and members who represent the RANZCP Victorian Branch at meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Provide policy advice and support to the RANZCP Victorian Branch Committee.
  • Provide policy support to other policy initiatives as required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate

  • The ability to work within a complex, committee-based organisational structure.
  •  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in policy development, government structures, and processes.
  • Sound quantitative and qualitative research skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, which are able to be tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to utilise time efficiently by prioritising a range of tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with committees made up of expert members; consumer, carer, and community representatives.
  • Capacity to build effective working relationships and work within a small team in line with team objectives and priorities.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate Health, Social Science, Education, Business or Research discipline.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

The successful candidate may be required to work from home initially due to the current COVID-19 situation.
