 A unique opportunity has now become available for an experienced Policy and Advocacy Officer to join a small and dynamic team to contribute to policy and advocacy in mental health.

 

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical speciality of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking a part time Policy and Advocacy Officer to join the Membership & Events department. 

 

The Policy and Advocacy Officer will coordinate and prepare RANZCP policies and submissions that are relevant to the practice of psychiatry and mental health in New Zealand and Australia, and to enhance the profile and strategic position of psychiatry and the RANZCP in New Zealand through a range of policy, advocacy and communications initiatives.

 

The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate health, social science, political science or other relevant discipline and will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of policy development and analysis with specific expertise in health and social arenas.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand health care system.
  • Demonstrated experience in a range of communications and media activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Māori health issues and a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Demonstrated ability to support the strategic prioritisation, planning, delivery, and evaluation of policy and advocacy objectives.
  • An understanding of governmental structures and process, and the mental health sector is desirable.
