The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand.

 

Position overview 

 

As a qualified psychiatrist and Fellow of the RANZCP, you will guide the development of educational and assessment programs of the College that align with the expected outcomes of the RANZCP’s Fellowship Training Program as well as relevant requirements and conditions of the Australian Medical Council.

 

This is an academic staff role in the College’s Education and Training department, and you will provide academic advice in line with best practice and the evidence base in medical education. You will lead stakeholder consultations, develop informed recommendations and feasibility considerations in relation to the RANZCP’s training and assessments, provide academic guidance on constructive alignment, advise on assessment and curriculum reviews and mapping, and oversee any new developments in the Fellowship Program curriculum.

 

You will provide leadership in the design and development of a cohesive assessment strategy, and engage effectively with stakeholders to enable implementation and integration within the Fellowship Program and workplace-based settings. 

 

The role will report to the Executive Manager, Education and Training, and work closely with key staff in the RANZCP’s Education department along with the Chair, Education Committee and other member groups and committees.

 

This is a two-year appointment at either 0.4 or 0.6 FTE (with the flexibility to allocate the required days), and can be performed from anywhere within Australia or New Zealand (i.e. predominantly remote) however with a requirement to attend some meetings in person.

 

About you 

 

You will be a Fellow of the RANZCP, with a relevant postgraduate qualification and extensive relevant experience in a similar role, including experience in curriculum and assessment development, medical education, and academic research. You will need to demonstrate sound experience in undergraduate, post-graduate or pre-vocational medical education and workplace-based clinical education.

 

Your ability to influence and engage stakeholders and a wider audience will be crucial, as will your expertise in ensuring effective communication and support for project objectives.

 

To succeed in this role and have a rewarding experience, you will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Proven background and ability to develop context-relevant strategies to meet educational objectives and targets.
  • High level analytical skills with the ability to identify feasibility issues/risks, guide the development and implementation of problem-solving initiatives.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development of contemporary curriculum and medical education programs, and assessment strategies.
  • Experience in the design of teaching and learning initiatives in the context of post-graduate specialist training.
  • Exceptional analytical, verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to present briefs and papers effectively, and to persuade, negotiate, motivate, analyse, and advocate to the targeted audience.
  • Proven skill / experience in engaging stakeholders and creating a collaborative, respectful and inclusive working environment.
