Assist to develop the profile of psychiatrists as leaders in mental health care
Located in Melbourne CBD, close to public transport
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP), the principal organisation representing the medical specialty of psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand, is seeking to appoint a capable communications professional to join the Office of the President and Chief Executive Officer (OPCEO).
Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Advocacy, this newly created position is primarily responsible for assisting the Manager with the RANZCP’s day-to-day media and communications activities. Coordination of media activities will include a range of duties including fielding media enquiries, monitoring media to identify key news items and issues, assisting with the preparation of media releases and responses in line with RANZCP Media Policy, and developing and maintaining relationships with key media contacts.
This key role will assist in the support of media work and development initiatives both to position the College as an authoritative voice in the mental health arena, and to meet the expectations of members.
To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate the following:
Some administrative experience is essential, and relevant experience in a similar administrative role in a corporate, membership or government environment is desirable.
A knowledge of or interest in media, public relations or journalism demonstrated by a relevant degree or qualification
Experience in a membership-based organisation, or in the health/mental health sector, would be highly regarded.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
An understanding of or interest in the Australian media and political systems.
The ability to engage with the media.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with College staff, Board and members.
An interest in mental health care and Australia and New Zealand health systems
Proven planning, organisational and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met with assistance from the Manager.
The ability to prioritise their workload and adapt to meet changing demands as directed by the Manager.
The capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a member of a team.
A good understanding and skills in using the full Microsoft Office suite of products.
The ability to work flexibly, including undertaking travel or working outside normal business hours if required.
